In a push to digital India campaign by Govt of India, UIDAI has rolled
out the official Aadhaar app for Android users. The data is collected by
the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and available for
all citizens. Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique-identity number which is
issued to all Indian residents based on their biometric and demographic
data.
The app has protection and comes with a password lock and you need to provide it every time you open it. The app, which is available in the Play store comes with information like name, date of birth, gender and address along with the user’s photograph and it is linked with one’s Aadhaar number. You can add your Aadhaar either by entering the number of scanning the QR code on the Aadhaar card. The app is current in beta and not all features work on the app. 3
Once resident enables Biometric Locking system their biometric remains locked till the Aadhaar Holder chose to either Unlock it (which is temporary) or Disable the Locking system. Biometric locking/unlocking – To secure biometric authentication by locking biometrics data. TOTP generation – Time-based One-Time Password is an automatically generated temporary password which can be used instead of SMS based OTP. Key Features of the app: Aadhaar Number Holder profile download – A convenient way to carry Aadhaar number with demographic details anytime, anywhere.
Sharing of QR code and eKYC data by Aadhaar Number holder – Share QR code and password protected eKYC data to retrieve accurate demographic information from it instead of manual entry. Update of profile – An updated view of Aadhaar profile data after successful completion of update request. The app also comes with Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) which is an automatically generated temporary password which can be used instead of SMS based OTP. You can download it from the Play store. We expect more features to be added to this app in the future.
